Flagship has been selected as the recipient of the 2026 Hilldun Business Innovation Award, presented at Fashion Group International's 30th Annual Rising Star Awards on April 16 in New York City at 583 Park Avenue.

The award, presented annually by Gary Wassner and Hilldun Corporation, recognizes companies driving meaningful innovation in the business of fashion. Past Rising Star honorees include Tory Burch, Jason Wu, Warby Parker, Rent the Runway, Thom Browne, and Brandon Maxwell.

"Justin Abrams, cofounder of Flagship, will be recognized with the Hilldun Business Innovation Award, presented by Joshua Kapelman of Hilldun Corp."

What made this recognition especially meaningful is how the selection process worked. The committee spoke directly with multiple brands currently using Flagship and asked a straightforward question: could these teams eventually replicate in ChatGPT or Claude what they do today in Flagship?

The answer was consistently no — not because these teams are skeptical of AI, but because inventory is often the largest asset on a retail brand's balance sheet, and planning it well is both an art and a science.

Every category, season, and channel behaves differently. Planners need to engage with their assortment in fundamentally different ways depending on the problem they are solving. That is not something a general-purpose tool can reliably handle, especially when the decisions carry real financial consequences.

What brands actually want is inventory planning that feels as easy as ChatGPT, but is purpose-built for the realities of retail: clean data they can trust, models that understand their business, and no hallucinations on million-dollar buy decisions.

This reflects something important happening in AI right now. In a vertical as nuanced as retail, the platforms that will generate double-digit ROI will not be the ones that simply automate a process. They will be the ones built on real data infrastructure — where every pipeline, model, and workflow accounts for the complexity of the domain, where data quality is governed, and where the nuances of the business are encoded into every layer so AI agents can deliver real value.
